This Blog follows my, professional and otherwise, forays into Chinese food security during a three month internship (September 9 – December 13, 2011) in Xi’an, China. The biology department at the Shaanxi Normal University is where I spend my working days investigating the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for traditional Chinese medicinal plants and herbs. The internship is a Students for Development initiative through the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada financially supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

My name is Chris Stroud and I live with my family in London, Ontario. I am a MA candidate in the International Development Studies department at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. I could not successfully complete this internship without the love and support of my partner Danielle Di Pinto and my two children, Forest (6 years) and Twila (1 year).
